TPD E-liquid

TPD e-liquids 10ml are one of the most common forms of e-liquids. These e-liquids come with nicotine in them, which means they can only be sold in sizes up to 10ml. This is because of the UK’s Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) which prohibits the sale of nicotine e-liquids in sizes over 10ml. It is also where we get the name ‘TPD’ from.

The advantage of 10ml TPDs is that they are super convenient, with all of the flavour and nicotine in one e-liquid. There’s no need to add nicotine as you would in a shortfill e-liquid, you can just open the bottle and fill up your device.

10ml TPDs typically come in a 50/50 PG:VG ratio, which makes them perfect for pod kits or other more portable vape devices like pen style kits. 10ml TPDs are a great choice for those who have just switched from smoking to vaping.

E-liquid will only be available in 10ml bottles moving f orward, with a maximum strength of 20mg (realistically, manufacturers aren’t likely to produce liquids over 18mg,to allow some margin for error). E-liquid with no nicotine (0mg) does not need to be tested and is unaffected by the TPD. So we may see an increase in 0mg lines where nicotine can be added ‘optionally’.

Which TPD E-liquid Is Right For My Vape Kit?

When it comes to pairing your 10ml e-liquid with a vape kit, you're in luck, there are compatible options for every type of refillable kit. Like all eliquid you'll need to pick one that has the right VG/PG consistency and nicotine strength. For more information we recommend you check out our e-liquid beginner's guide.

To get you started, MTL kits work best with a 50% VG eliquid or lower. This also goes for pod kits that use sub ohm coils but have a low wattage output, sometimes known as restricted DTL kits. Higher PG E-liquids are thinner and therefore require less power to be turned into vapour, they'll also create less vapour overall - making them more discreet. High VG E-liquids will be thicker and require more power to heat, in turn creating more vapour. A 70% VG E-liquid or higher will work best with a sub ohm kit.

When it comes to nicotine level any strength can be used with an MTL kit. With a sub ohm kit however, we recommend a strength that's no higher than 6mg, otherwise it will create a throat hit that's too harsh; 3mg is by far the most popular choice.

What is an E-liquid?

E-liquids, also known as vape juices, are the liquids that are put into vape devices in order to create vapour. This vapour is what is then inhaled, giving vaping its name. E-liquids are made of vegetable glycerin (VG), propyl glycol (PG), flavourings, water and can optionally contain nicotine.

What is a 50/50 E-liquid?

A 50/50 e-liquid is typically a 10ml e-liquid that contains nicotine. They are named 5050/s because they have 50% PG (propyl glycol) and 50% VG (vegetable glycerin) content. This makes them ideal for pod kits.

Can I get TPD E-liquid bigger than 10ml?

Under the TPD, any eliquid that contains nicotine must be sold in a bottle or container no bigger than 10ml. If you're looking to buy larger bottles of eliquid you should consider a shortfill. Shortfill eliquids are underfilled bottles that have room for a nicotine shot. They contain no nicotine so can be sold in larger bottles, with popular sizes including 50ml and 100ml. Nic shots can be found in different strengths and are available in 10ml bottles.

However, shortfills are only an option if you use lower nicotine strengths, as they are usually designed to create a 3mg E-liquid once the nic shot has been added. If you are using higher strengths then your best bet is to stick with 10ml options

What Are The Different Types of Nicotine?

It's the wide amount of choice that makes TPD liquids the most popular. Not only is there a large selection of VG/PG ratios and nicotine strengths on offer, but also different types of nicotine. The main types are freebase, salt and hybrid.

Freebase nicotine E-liquids create a stronger throat hit and offer a vape that feels closest to a cigarette. If you're looking to experience a smoother throat hit though, you should try nic salt eliquid. Not only is it smoother (even at higher strengths), it's also absorbed faster to satisfy cravings quickly. Finally, there's the option of hybrid nicotine which combines both freebase and nic salts, for an E-liquid that has a noticeable throat hit but still satisfies cravings quickly - for the best of both worlds.

What is a nic salt?

Nic salts, or e-liquid salts, are an e-liquid that contains a more natural salt form of nicotine called nicotine salicylate. This salt form of nicotine is similar to the natural nicotine found in the tobacco leaf. Nic salts typically come in 10ml bottles and are available in a variety of flavours.

What is a shortfill?

A shortfill is an e-liquid that contains zero nicotine and comes in larger bottles, usually 50ml+ and over. Because they contain no nicotine, they can be sold in bottles larger than 10ml; this means they can be cheaper per ml of e-liquid. They are called shortfills, because the bottles leave room for a nic shot, the simplest way of adding nicotine to an e-liquid.

What is a Nic shot?

Nic shots are flavourless e-liquids that contatin nicotine. Adding nic shots to a shortfill effectively increases the nicotine content of a shortfill. This allows you to vape nicotine e-liquid while taking advantage of the great value of shortfills.

Which e-liquids are safe?

All e-liquids that are sold in the UK have been through some of the most rigorous safety tests in the world. The e-liquids we sell are UK approved, which means they have been through these rigorous tests and should not contain any harmful substances. However, if you have any allergies to food additives, always check the ingredients of an e-liquid you are thinking of buying.

When do e-liquids expire?

Like many other products, e-liquids can go bad after time, however e-liquids usually last up to two years. E-liquids can discolour over time, but this is usually just oxygen reacting with the liquid. If you have any concerns, it’s always best to read the label of your e-liquid to find out the expiration date.

Which e-liquid is best?

There is no simple answer to that, as every vaper is different! There are a lot of ways to vape, such as by using a pod kit or a sub ohm kit, and the kind of e-liquid that is best for each can differ. Furthermore, flavour preference is very subjective and there are so many available! It is best to try different e-liquids and find out which brand, flavour and type is perfect for how you choose to vape.

Which e-liquid to use for sub ohm kits?

For sub ohm kits, we recommend using an e-liquid that is high in VG. This allows for the creation of the best clouds, and they work well with the low resistance of sub ohm coils. Many shortfills are available in 70-30 VG-PG ratio.

Which e-liquid to use for pod kits?

Pod kits work best with e-liquids that have a good PG content. For convenience, we recommend either 50-50s or nic salts. Both of these e-liquids have a 50% PG content and their convenient size make them ideal for pod kit vaping.

What are PG VG ratios?

PG VG ratios are the amount of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) in an e-liquid. These ingredients affect how an e-liquid behaves. High PG e-liquids tend to have more focus on flavour, but can have a harder throat hit. High VG liquids produce more vapour and are smoother, but they can give less distinct flavour and are harder on coils. Both types of e-liquids are great, it’s all about using them in the right device.
