What is Stoptober?

Stoptober 2016 is just around the corner, 10 days away in fact, but what is Stoptober? Stoptober is a movement designed to help people stop smoking for 28 days during October.

Stoptober is an initiative run by Public Health England every year to help people (like you) to quit smoking. You can partake by doing things like downloading the app, chat with others who are quitting at the same time and you can make the most of their face to face stop smoking services too.

Quit for 28 days and you’ll likely quit for good!!

According to the NHS, if you stop for 28 days you’re 5 times more likely to quit smoking for good!

The significant decline in smoking can be seen in the reduction in the number of households that include a smoker, from half (50%) in 1985, to 21% in 2013.

Last year over 215,000 people signed up to give it a go, using Stoptober’s support to reduce the amount that they smoked or even quit cigarettes completely.

Stoptober offer guidance and practical advice to people to help them make the healthier choice. There are still an estimated 8 million smokers in the UK, but Public Health England and the NHS aim to change that this October.

Professor Kevin Fenton, Director of Health and Well-being at Public Health England said: “Smoking remains England’s number one killer and the best thing a smoker can do is to quit completely, now and forever.”

How e-cigarettes can help!!

Many people choose to move away from traditional tobacco cigarettes by switching to e-cigarettes to help them manage their addiction; by providing nicotine without the reams and reams of harmful substances released by burning tobacco and paper, e-cigarettes are a much healthier choice that will still satisfy the craving for nicotine.

“If all the smokers in Britain stopped smoking cigarettes and started [using] e-cigarettes we would save five million deaths in people who are alive today. It’s a massive potential public health prize.” – Prof. J Britton, Royal College of Physicians

According to Public Health England, e-cigarettes are 95% safer than smoking tobacco.

Research and analysis conducted by University College London (UCL) and Cancer Research UK suggest that over 18,000 people were able to successfully quit smoking using e-cigarettes. Not only that, but using an e-cigarette to help makes you 60% more likely to kick nicotine completely!

By using an e-cigarette you can set your own pace when it comes to quitting, too. By gradually decreasing the nicotine that you’re taking in you’ll be able to make the switch at a speed that feels right for you.

E-Liquids are available in a range of nicotine strengths; from a high 24mg/ml right down to a super-low 3mg/ml or even 0mg/ml for those who want the flavour with none of the nicotine.

Switch and save £££

You’ll save money too, because e-cigarettes are much cheaper than cigarettes over time. Consider this; if you’re smoking 20 cigarettes a day you’re spending on average £9 every single day. That’s £3024 a year!

Money in the pocket is incentive enough for some people to make the switch to e-cigarettes. You could use the money you save to take a fantastic holiday, or start saving for that new car you’ve been eyeing.

The benefits of vaping

There are even more benefits to vaping, too…

Many people report that their general level of fitness begins to increase after they make the switch off cigarettes and onto vaping, from being exhausted simply walking up stairs to walking miles and miles each week!

Your sense of smell and taste will come back, and you won’t stink of stale smoke any more, there’s so many reasons to switch!

By switching to e-cigarettes and ditching the traditional tobacco you can avoid the nasty nicotine withdrawal symptoms that affect some people who quit cold-turkey.
